A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Vĩnh Tài

the mist
or a pretence, defensive clouds
birds
or a pretence, defensive tired arms
dollar and cents
or a pretence, defensive of a vessel long gone
and the smoke
or a pretence, defensive of its own shadow?
the confirmed pretence
choked us
hence poetry in pomp and ceremony swear:
I swear if not,
my lips shall in pretence disappear and fly away
like the birds, the mist, smoke…
_____
sương mù
hay giả vờ để bảo vệ một đám mây
những con chim
hay giả vờ để bảo vệ hai cánh tay đã mỏi
vài đồng xu
hay giả vờ bảo vệ chuyến tàu mất hút
và đám khói
hay giả vờ bảo vệ cái bóng của nó?
chắc chắn những sự giả vờ
đã làm chúng ta ngộp thở
vì vậy thơ long trọng thề:
tôi xin thề nếu không,
đôi môi của tôi sẽ giả vờ bay đi mất
như sương như khói như chim…
