THE STARKNESS OF THE CITY
`
blatantly raw cold pervading wind overwhelmed the flowers mid-flight
a blunt shredded fate in splintered branches
faithful how to a season on its knees a bloodied season
shoved down the throat of night before the screaming out rage
to the very last blade of grass the desolation upon the city
sombre sound of bells ascended the river in ripples
birds bowing in reverence tweeted the songs of old
returned to die upon the burned meadows of long ago
there at the squat-cafe who’s missing whom
autumn residing
in each wisp of suspended smoke

trận gió lạnh lùng hình hài thô bạo cuốn chùm hoa bay đi
nhành cây gãy đầu xơ xác thân phận
tin làm sao được mùa gối mùa máu đỏ
khi tiếng thét bị đè bẹp trong cuống họng của đêm qua
thành phố sáng hoang vu từng miếng cỏ
tiếng chuông buồn lăn xuống dòng sông
những con chim cúi đầu hót rao lời cũ
bay về chết trên cỏ cháy đồi xưa
ai ngồi nhớ ai quán cóc cà phê
giọt khói cuộn tròn lơ lửng
mùa đã thu rồi

Master in Hán-Nôm, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, The National University of Hà Nội, 2011.
Ph.D. in Linguistics, The Faculty of Science, The University of Huế, 2014.
Currently a resident lecturer of the Faculty of Education, The University of Huế.

I bet. It must be so surreal to you to meet some of these poets after you have read their beautiful work. I am so glad you get to visit. There are so many poems to be shared. You must be using every spare moment doing this as a pharmacist has a very busy and intense position. Any doctor does but a pharmacist has to check so many things for their customers. 🦋❤️🙏

Beautifully written. A miniature Film Noir movie in poetry describing the starkness and imagery of the city amidst reams of cigarette smoke.

This particular poet, as I translated his poetry, and it felt like he was trying to climb out of a hole, but the hole keeps getting deeper and deeper.. I almost translated his whole book of poems. I had to stop LOL.
