how could that one person be the entirety of the sunset

A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Vĩnh Tài

how could

that one person be

the entirety of the sunset?

how could that one person be

always late

make the Sun go to bed early?

dear God

I beg Thee for Thy aid

she is a lake of golden orange hues

unfurling

a pair of eyes

shutting

blinding

turning everything into night

_____

làm thế nào

mà một người là cả

hoàng hôn?

làm thế nào mà một người

lúc nào cũng đến muộn

làm mặt trời đi ngủ sớm?

Chúa ơi

xin người hãy giúp con

nàng, và hồ nước màu vàng cam

loang ra

như đôi mắt

nhắm

mù loà

thành đêm tối
