Ripe is the season upon the return of December

The reverie golden upon the moss strewn entrance(of the alley way)

An afternoon frozen in the quivering fire light

The quiet whisper in one’s heart : spring is here again!

)

The world seemed thinner than before

in a soft fading passing scent

the surprised pretty eyes across the yard

a drop of spring sunlight laughing on a peppermint leaf

(

Returned to ask the brimming dense fog 

approaching steeped gently in an adventurous spirit

admired the bright eyes the rosy age of  spring

a season rolling over fragrant upon one’s shirt

)

To get just a whiff of the fruits in the trees

the endeared tenderness of home

the silent middays shattered by brilliant laugher

greener were the reeds and flowers strewn in pearly drops of water

(

Clinging to one’s clothes the scent of an old verse 

a lifetime of earnestly dreaming of a new spring

within a placid narrow scope

woke up, the harmonious new morning.

Tháng chạp về rồi, mùa ngâu chín

trước ngõ rêu phong mộng hóa vàng

run run ánh lửa chiều đông tái

gọi khẽ trong lòng : xuân nữa sang!

)

Trời đất dường như gầy hơn trước

mà thoáng hương đi vẫn dịu trầm

qua vườn chợt thấy mắt ai đẹp

giọt nắng xuân cười trên lá răm

(

Về hỏi sương mù rưng rưng đọng

đắm nhẹ hồn phiêu lạc bước gần

ngắm tuổi xuân hồng mắt gương sáng

mùa lượt là. thơm ngợi áo khăn

)

Làm sao thở được mùi cây trái

dìu dặt thương thương những phố nhà

tiếng cười vỡ biếc trưa yên tịnh

ngọc nước xanh ngời lên cỏ hoa

(

Níu áo người về hương thơ cũ

mơ dạng xuân tươi hết lòng đời

đằm đằm ngan ngát không gian hẹp

thức dậy, chan hòa một sớm mơi.

Hoàng Xuân Sơn 

A renowned poet, born 1942, writes under various pseudonyms: Hoàng Xuân Sơn, Sử Mặc, Hoàng Hà Tỉnh, Vô Ðịnh… 

Hometown: Vỹ Dạ, Huế.

Bán Công High School and Quốc Học Huế High School

Bachelor of philosophy, and postgraduate of political science and commerce at The university of Văn Khoa Sài Gòn. 

Worked at the Ministry of Transport and Communication, a branch of the General Department of Postal Service of the Republic of Vietnam.

After 1975 worked in the Postal Office for 7 years. December 1981 settled in Montreal, Canada.

The poet’s career span from 1970 to the present day his work has been published in many literary publications. In vietnam: Văn, Chính Văn, Diễn  Ðàn, Khởi Hành, Nghiên Cứu Văn Học, Ðối Diện, Thân Hữu, Xây Dựng Nông Thôn, Ngưỡng Cửa, Nhà Văn. Outside of Vietnam: Làng Văn, Văn Học, Văn, Thế Kỷ 21, Chủ Ðề,  Sóng, Sóng Văn, Nắng Mới, Saigon Times, Hợp Lưu, Phố Văn,  Gío Văn , Canh Tân, Ði Tới, tạp chí Thơ.
