Dusk

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-AnhTra
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

A stroll around the lake

the lake silent

boundless

.

Leaves glistening teardrops

blooms are hidden waiting

the light reflection of the Sun

.

Rosy the hues of dusk

a bottomless lake

to farewell this day the Sun in such haste

CHIỀU

Ta đi dạo quanh hồ

mặt hồ lặng im

bờ hồ như vô bờ

.

Những chiếc lá long lanh ngấn lệ

những bông hoa náu mình chờ

mặt trời soi làn nước hồ chiều

.

Hừng lên màu hoàng hôn

đáy hồ như vô đáy

vội vã mặt trời từ giã ngày

March’s full moon

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

there’s no bad intent

a late bloomer

a belated love

blatantly obvious

but silent

/

there’s no chance of ever being

side by side tonight

the moon hid behind the clouds

Hanoi wrapped in sunny showers

there’s no place for a moon

oh infatuated moon

do you not have a single word for this flower in bloom

on the eve of your full moon

/

the poem is too late

tea cold

flower unaware

hence the displaced

regret

RẰM THÁNG BA

có trách gì nhau đâu

một đóa hoa nở muộn

một tình yêu đến muộn

lặng lẽ thôi

biết rồi

/

có được ngồi với nhau đâu

đêm nay rằm

trăng luẩn quất trong mây

Hà Nội ngày tháng giao mưa nắng

trăng về đâu

vầng trăng say đắm

sao không hẹn lời cho hoa nở

lúc đêm rằm

/

thơ đến muộn

chén trà muộn

hoa vô tình

ta tiếc nuối

không đâu

An afternoon at the end of 2020

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

now I’m weaker

left is the first enthusiastic verse

shy of such challenges in my youth

deliberation alone in my twilight years

.

literature is like a love affair

an attachment that could never be severed

I’m resigned to write for myself

if it sounds great, let’s hope someone picks it up

.

settling on a dream of meditation

stumbling on a rocky path or side trip

gone were the thoughts by the monks in the temple

a life of servitude pushed aside by carnal love

.

winter days overwhelmed by glaring sunlight

I’m resigned to wait for a change, in the new year a kinder wind

my hair reflective in a fainter hue

I had never thought that a strand of hair

could be so sad.

CHIỀU CUỐI NĂM 2020

.

ta giờ sức đã kém hơn

chỉ câu thơ vẫn sớm hôm miệt mài

lúc trẻ chẳng dám đua tài

già rồi ta cứ khoan thai một mình

.

văn chương như một cuộc tình

bỏ không dứt vương rối tinh mảnh đời

ta ngồi viết cho ta thôi

câu nào nghe được xin người nhặt lên

.

díu dan một giấc mộng thiền

dẫm vào sỏi đá ngỡ miền viễn du

tính lên chùa ở với sư

lòng yêu mang nặng kiếp tu chẳng thành

.

ngày đông trời hửng nắng hanh

ta ngồi đợi ngọn gió lành năm sau

soi gương tóc đã ngả màu

trước ta tưởng sợi tóc đâu biết buồn

Dalat station

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

An old train

like a childhood dream

Every door is locked

.

The poet

on a virtual vessel

a lonely intangible tickle

(no one sells anymore)

Kẻ làm thơ

đi trên con tàu ảo

tấm vé cô đơn cũng vô hình

Sunday, May 2021

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

days locked up in the public garden

shrubs and trees silent

empty footpaths yearning for the clatter of feet

.

a small dog perched watching

I’m inside looking out

as the days passed by

.

I’m old so be told

time has turned its back on me

but next to me

there is always poetry

CHỦ NHẬT 30/5

.

công viên những ngày khoá lại

cỏ cây im lìm như ngủ

lối không người qua nhìn thèm

.

con chó nhỏ nằm trên sân nhỏ nhìn ra

ta ngồi trong nhà nhìn ra

mỗi ngày như thế trôi qua

.

ta đã là người già

thời gian ngoảnh mặt với ta

chỉ có thơ mãi ở lại

Rain

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

RAIN

.

oh the rain

each small drop

each rhythmic spatter on the tin roof

.

oh the white

each white strands of hair

bursts of silver in each curl

what could ever hold back time

Err is the season

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

ERR IS THE SEASON

.

Written for no one

Yet still baffled so

Written for sundowns

Sunset absent towns

.

Err is the season

Err is the wilted rose

Froze in a draw cold

Sold to those that love

.

A rendezvous nil

That aeon ago

And now still thus so

An ode without love

.

Written for sundown

Dropped two words abiding

Gone are sentiments

As time hangs passes by

có viết cho ai đâu

viết cho những buổi chiều

lạnh đông trong ngăn tủ

bán cho người yêu nhau

.

đã bao giờ hẹn đâu

từ ngày xưa xa ấy

và bây giờ cũng vậy

câu thơ không tình yêu

viết cho những buổi chiều

quên hai chữ chờ đợi

rơi đâu rồi cảm xúc

lững lờ thời gian trôi

The cold wind

A poem in Vietnamese by Bùi Kim-Anh
Translation by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

the cold wind delivered us

stayed

echoed by the hot coffee in an alley at the old quarter

the narrow stairs seemingly perched in the air

the seatings vagrant

eerie

vehicles chewing up the moments

a familiarity

touched upon

the memories of an old Hanoi
