you feel as though you have someone
else’s fingers in your hand
you’re fragile
it’s so hard to breath in this world
the harsh environment
even with lower interest rates
tax exemptions, cheap poetry
discounts
the one time only two hundred and fifty thousand Dong
still there are the predators
on the elevators
you’re shivering
and the crack inside you is fervent
with aching

LÀM THẾ NÀO ĐỂ NÀNG KHÔNG LO LẮNG KHI YÊU
bạn cảm thấy như ngón tay
của ai đó trong lòng bàn tay bạn
bạn cảm thấy rất mong manh
thế giới này, hơi khó thở
xứ sở thật khắc nghiệt
dù người ta đã giảm lãi, miễn thuế
cho những bài thơ bị ế
và giảm giá
chỉ còn hai trăm năm mươi ngàn cho một cú
vẫn đầy những thằng hiếp dâm
đâm sầm vào thang máy
bạn bị lạnh
vết nứt của bạn đang đau
đầu và sốt…

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
