the virus doesn’t care
about the verbal abuse
the commands
it’s to everyone infectious
thousands and thousands of people have died
the rich the poor
including the more destitute
the virus smiling at the millionaire
watching him also in despair
the virus concludes:
there isn’t a choice
the world must accept
in coronation
the virulent
new king
con virus không quan tâm đến
những lời lăng mạ
và ra lệnh
nó lây nhiễm cho tất cả mọi người
và hàng ngàn người đã chết
người giàu và người nghèo
cả những người nghèo hơn
virus mỉm cười với ông tỷ phú
khi thấy ông cũng đang cam chịu
vì vậy con virus nghĩ rằng:
đó là cách
mà cả thế giới phải chấp nhận
một ông vua mới
tên là virus
lên ngôi…

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
