I reinvented myself
I don’t believe in the creator
but I believe in you
your eyes and
the words sighing
the words have not fallen
like you have fallen before
messages ordering you to remove the article
the way I removed each verse
of a poem
causing it to bleed
the verses I’ve forgotten
mislaid
I’ve tried to erase
my bouts of malaria
my blood
blue
like after the storm

tôi làm mới lại tôi
tôi không tin thượng đế
nhưng tôi tin bạn
đôi mắt bạn và
con chữ thở dài
chữ nghĩa không thất thủ
nhưng bạn thất thủ trước những
những tin nhắn ra lệnh phải gỡ bài
như tôi gỡ từng phần
của bài thơ
làm nó chảy máu
những phần mà tôi quên
và đặt sai chỗ
tôi luôn cố gắng xóa
cơn sốt rét của tôi
máu tôi
xanh
như sau cơn bão
Lê Vĩnh Tài, the poet and translator born in 1966 in Buon Ma Thuot, Daklak, Vietnam. The retired doctor is still a resident of the Western Highlands and a businessman in Buon Ma Thuot.
Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
