I was wrong to have thought you were my mother
a body
a home where I may return

you still have an entire
heart in your hand
sowing seeds of love

love
I beg you
we will have to wait for how long before you could

with me love
slowly and surely

you’re not a drop
you’re the water
gentle and sound
pouring into you

anh nhầm em với mẹ anh
một cơ thể
một ngôi nhà anh có thể chui trở vào

em còn nguyên
trái tim trong tay
gieo hạt của em vào đất

tình yêu
anh van xin em
chúng ta sẽ chờ bao lâu em còn có thể

yêu với anh
thật chậm

em không phải là giọt
em là nước
sâu thẳm dịu dàng
rót vào em


Lê Vĩnh Tài, the poet and translator born in 1966 in Buon Ma Thuot, Daklak, Vietnam. The retired doctor is still a resident of the Western Highlands and a businessman in Buon Ma Thuot.

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
