A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Đình Tiến

Another year.
Another year inkling
The last ripped page of the calendar
Crumbled in one’s hand is something
Can’t be bought, and wasted.
Who’s so busy rounding up the year
Falling pluchea indica, the fear
The send off, washed away
With the spring rain.
Another year of feasting
Ten days of eating
Crushing for years, not on any wine
But just that smile, and I’m pining.
Another year of debts unpaid
The full pockets hearsay
Your husband is generous with his absence
The tears, they betray.
Another year by a lonely river
The dry void of landslides or sediment
The self pity as pitiful as the drought
Adrift along with faith and existence.

Cuối Năm.
Cuối năm thêm tờ lịch rụng
Vò thời gian nát trên tay
Thứ người đời không mua nổi
Ta tiêu hoang phí tháng ngày.
Ai lại đi ngày giáp tết
Buồn thiu mấy bụi cúc tần
Ta sợ không ra đưa tiễn
Gửi lòng theo đám mưa xuân.
Cuối năm cỗ bàn ngập mặt
Trốn ăn đến tận mùng mười
Mấy năm chẳng say bia rượu
Lại đi say một nụ cười.
Cuối năm toàn người khất nợ
Sờ vào thấy ví sạch trơn
Em lấy chồng còn rộng lượng
Lì xì lại nỗi cô đơn.
Cuối năm ra nhìn sông vắng
Mùa khô không lở không bồi
Thương mình như sông mùa cạn
Chênh vênh bên đạo bên đời.
