We are like wild thistle flowers at the spine of a hill
There to welcome the morning breeze
Abreast the moon on the fourteenth
A source of fresh laughter from a heavenly well

Sisters, shouldering water from lotus ponds
Shattered pieces of a golden Sun
Scooping up birdsongs, jubilance of leaves
The village paths brilliant in the first light

Little sister lulled(by her sister) in a hammock grandma weaved
A lullaby the wholeness of a home
A lullaby the sweetness of a cornfield
A village united in a happy song

A sky damp with the rain
Fields, treasured chests of sadness 
Only the ants in the nooks of the areca understand
Brimming breeze over the hedges

Warm comforting scent of dry dung and hay
We’re less helpless in our burgeoning youth
The seasons, blankets for cold windy nights
Through the leaves, a village lullaby.

Chị em và làng

Chúng mình như những bông diếp dại
Trên sườn đồi đón gió sớm mai
Ngực nhú trăng mười bốn
Tiếng cười xanh giếng trời

Chị và em gánh nước ao sen
Mặt trời vàng ròng vỡ ra từng mảnh
Múc cả tiếng chim tưng bừng đám lá
Đường làng hớn hở những ban mai

Trên chiếc võng bà đan chị hát ru em
Ru qua hết một chái nhà
Ru về bãi ngô căng mật
Cả ngôi làng tràn khúc ngợi ca

Một bầu trời ướt đẫm nước mưa
Những khu vườn kho tàng buồn bã
Chỉ đàn kiến từ hốc cau biết rõ
Ngọn gió bờ rào rưng rưng

Mùi phân bò khô mùi rơm rạ ấm nồng
Cho ta bớt bơ vơ khi thấy mình đã lớn
Giữ tấm chăn mùa màng những đêm gió trở
Nghe tiếng làng qua kẽ lá thưa.
