A poem in Vietnamese by Nguyễn Man Nhiên
Translator: Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm
me regretting the recollection of my youth
a train full of coal through the street
found myself at the precipice of worship
eyes closed as though I was in prayer
head lowered, rigid giant stone carved horses
listening to the wind lectured about how to be free
my wings stirred white the descending fog
the countless sunrise venting dense thick smoke
n g ự a t ế
tôi tiếc thu ngày còn trẻ
một chuyến tàu than men theo phố
thấy mình ở lối vào cửa đền
mắt nhắm như đang cầu nguyện
đầu cúi, những con ngựa đá khổng lồ
đứng nghe gió rao giảng tự do
đôi cánh tôi thổi trắng buổi sa mù
những bình minh đục tràn ống khói
