Tot couldn’t wait to go home
Home to nan and pop in the country

To swimming in the river
To running barefoot through the trees
To flying a kite through the fields
To fishing in the pond

Night after night
In the moonlight
Listen to pop stories about “chị Hằng”

Tot passing around nan’s warm roasted peanuts

Nghỉ hè bé lại thăm quê
Được đi lên rẫy, được về tắm sông

Thăm bà, rồi lại thăm ông
Thả diều, câu cá… sướng không chi bằng

Đêm về ngồi ngắm ông trăng
Nghe ông kể chuyện chị Hằng ngày xưa

Bà rang đậu lạc thơm chưa
Mời ông bà, bé say sưa chuyện trò.

Súc miệng kỹ
Rửa mặt thôi!
Ai cười tươi
Răng trắng thế?

Là nhờ công trạng của mình tôi thôi.
Kem rằng: – Anh nói sai rồi!
Có anh, mà chẳng có tôi, cũng thừa.
Hàm răng điềm đạm vội thưa:
– Nhờ hai anh, tôi bốn mùa trắng thơm
Xin đừng cãi cọ thiệt hơn
Xét công lao, ấy vẫn còn bàn tay
Của anh cu Tí mỗi ngày
Rất siêng năng, chải chuốt hoài cho tôi
Công lao ai cũng tuyệt vời
Tôi xin đền đáp nụ cười thật xinh.

Pup broke nan’s bowl
Nan screamed, pup flee
Pup sulked under the guava tree

Cún hư làm bể chén bà
Bà la, cún bỏ chạy ra ngoài vườn
Nằm bên gốc ổi… mà thương
Bé liền mang đến khúc xương đùi gà

Cún như biết lỗi lắm mà
Ngoắc đuôi mà chẳng dám tha xương đùi
Đưa tay ôm cún, bé cười:
– “Ăn đi nào, chớ sụt sùi mà chi
Mặt mày xấu xí lạ kỳ
Xin bà tha lỗi, mau đi vào nhà!”

Cún giờ mới chịu hiểu ra
Ngậm xương chạy đến bên bà… vẫy đuôi.
