the poem: “the afternoon setting upon the stomach of a poet”

let me fall
me deeper into the heart
a wanderer
me beneath the skin stretching
lumpy stretch marks

me
through the stomach
loaded and warm
the recluse and the outcast
meeting up within me
in beating hoofbeats

changing actuality
as he continues to stand his ground
on the tip of his toes

me looking down
seeing clearly how my toes
the pad of by feet are both
still planted firmly and sound
on the ground.

để tôi rơi
tôi sâu vào trong lòng
kẻ lang thang
tôi dưới lớp da rạn ra lốm đốm

tôi
vào trong bụng
một vật nặng và ấm
kẻ ẩn dật và kẻ bị ruồng bỏ
gặp trong tôi
bằng nhịp điệu của móng guốc

sự dịch chuyển của trọng lượng
khi anh ta còn cố đứng vững
trên ngón chân

tôi nhìn xuống
nhận biết ngón chân và gót chân của mình
vẫn còn trên mặt đất.

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
