Lê Thanh My

A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Thanh My
Translator: Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

people line up in long lines
heads down and pre-occupied with when
the plane will take off

patiently you wait for a reply
you just sent, ready
to fall apart

less than ten minutes drive away
I’m standing in the rain
told no one in particular that I
have fallen for you!

a forgotten tumulus | Lê Thanh My

Lê Thanh My

A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Thanh My
Translator: Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

a memory upon
a forgotten tumulus

days drowning in dreams
dry desiccated grass
budding
unfurling white light
a pristine
new moon…

trên đồi cỏ quên
và ta bỗng nhớ

những ngày bị dìm vào mộng mị
thấy cỏ khô rậm rịch đâm chồi
một đóm trắng
lập lờ nở sáng
mà trăng lòng đã mở tinh khôi…

Message | Lê Thanh My

Lê Thanh My

A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Thanh My

I wanted to send you a message
as the birds flew by
the scent of blooming orchids
and steamed cooked rice
but us is a thing of the past

sad letters on the keyboard
fingertips bland and bored
tapping into nothingness
the rising smoke

a message for the air
Stop with all this longing, it’s not fair!
