the poem
through penance
it can be nothing but soft
it loves what it loves
the poem telling hopelessness
when all it want is
to be the world
it said, there is only me in this world as though
there’s no such thing as rain or sunlight left in the world
rain and sunlight home to hum the melodies
undeniable notes
where words are unnecessary
in love, the poem lies down like grass
no matter who you are, how lonely you might be
this world will be dedicated to you
the poem is a terrifying journey
the jungle it’s trying to find
human laughter, heart O heart dear heart
us finding it at the outskirt of the jungle
drops of red blood, cold and dead
together with the lies, cold and dead

đi qua sự ăn năn
nó chỉ việc mềm mại
yêu những gì nó yêu

kể về sự tuyệt vọng
khi cứ muốn mình là cả thế giới
nó nói, thế giới này chỉ có một mình em
làm như thế giới không còn mưa và nắng
nắng và cơn mưa đã về đến nhà
hát những giai điệu không cần lời
những nốt nhạc không cần hoài nghi
khi yêu, bài thơ nằm như cỏ
dù bạn là ai, bạn cô đơn đến đâu
thế giới này sẽ hiến dâng cho bạn
bài thơ là một chuyến đi đáng sợ
khu rừng mà nó tìm kiếm
tiếng người reo hò, trái tim ơi, trái tim
chúng ta thấy nó nằm ở bìa rừng
những giọt máu đỏ, lạnh và chết
cùng những lời nói dối, lạnh và chết
Lê Vĩnh Tài, the poet and translator born in 1966 in Buon Ma Thuot, Daklak, Vietnam. The retired doctor is still a resident of the Western Highlands and a businessman in Buon Ma Thuot.
Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm, the blogger, poet, and translator, was born in 1971 in Phu Nhuan, Saigon, Vietnam. The pharmacist currently lives and works in Western Sydney, Australia.
